Castel Volturno coastline to undergo specialized tire cleanup

Environmental organizations Legambiente and the Domizia association have organized a specialized cleanup operation at the Castel Volturno coastline near the mouth of the Regi Lagni. The initiative focuses on removing abandoned tires that have become embedded in the sand or washed ashore by currents.

The targeted area is ecologically sensitive, serving as a nesting site for the Caretta caretta sea turtle and the Kentish plover, a bird characteristic of dune environments. To protect these species, volunteers will perform a selective cleanup specifically targeting rubber waste rather than a general collection, ensuring nesting areas remain undisturbed.

The operation is supported by several institutions, including the Government Extraordinary Commissioner for Land Reclamation in the Terra dei Fuochi, the Municipality of Castel Volturno, and the Government Representative for combating arson in Campania.
