Castel Volturno commemorates 2008 massacre victims

The community of Castel Volturno held commemorations to mark the anniversary of the September 18, 2008, massacre. During that event, six African workers—El Hadji Ababa, Christopher Adams, Francis Kwame Antwi Julius, Samuel Kwako, Alex Jeemes, and Eric Yeboah Affum—were killed in an ambush attributed to a commando led by Giuseppe Setola, a member of the Casalesi clan.

The memorial events, organized by groups including Emergency, Libera, and various local migrant movements, focused on themes of inclusion, anti-racism, and social rights. In addition to honoring the victims, activists used the occasion to protest the proposed construction of a Center for Repatriation (CPR) in the La Piana area, arguing that public resources should be directed toward social services, schools, and migrant regularization instead of detention facilities.
