Castel Volturno opposition grows against proposed repatriation center

Local leaders and unions are voicing strong opposition to the planned construction of a Center for Repatriation (CPR) in Castel Volturno, Italy.

Ferdinando Palumbo, general secretary of CISAL Caserta, criticized the project as an unwise decision that contradicts the long-term development goals for the Domitio coast. He argued that the area requires investments in tourism and infrastructure to transform its identity, rather than becoming a site for detention facilities. Palumbo emphasized that the union's stance is based on the potential impact on workers and citizens rather than political maneuvering.

Regional councilor Raffaele Aveta of the Five Star Movement (M5S) also joined the protest, stating that the facility risks aggravating existing social tensions. Aveta highlighted the environmental and touristic potential of the territory, noting that the regional council has already approved a motion against the CPR. He called on the government to abandon the project to protect the region's development and environmental vocation.
