Italian police seize 19 firearms and arrest 70 in nationwide anti‑crime operation
The Servizio Centrale Operativo coordinated a large‑scale investigation carried out by the Squadre Mobili in 26 Italian cities. The operation, launched in early May, targeted predatory crimes such as residential burglary, robbery, fraud against the elderly and other property offences. Authorities reported 70 arrests, including one minor, and 264 people cited in complaints, of whom 25 were minors. Seizures included 29 burglary tools, €13,035 in cash, branded clothing, jewellery and 2,000 packs of contraband cigarettes (≈ €10,000 value). Police also confiscated 19 loaded firearms and 11 knives or other bladed weapons. Checks focused on urban neighbourhoods and areas near night‑clubs, where predatory offences are most common.
Multiple news outlets provided the same figures, confirming the scale of the crackdown.
