Castell del Remei historical archive transferred to Generalitat
The historical archive of Castell del Remei has been transferred to the Generalitat de Catalunya to be incorporated into the Pla d’Urgell Regional Archive. The collection consists of approximately eight linear meters of documentation, primarily covering the first half and the second third of the 20th century during the management period of the Girona family.
The Girona family was a highly influential part of the 19th-century Catalan bourgeoisie, involved in major infrastructure and business projects such as the Banc de Barcelona, the Zaragoza-Barcelona railway, the Barcelona-Granollers line, and the Canal d’Urgell. Their legacy also includes contributions to the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the University of Barcelona, and the neo-Gothic facade of the Barcelona Cathedral.
The diverse archive includes records of the estate's winemaking achievements, such as a gold medal from the 1897 Brussels International Exposition, as well as documentation regarding the management of properties in Barcelona, maintenance costs for seats at the Liceu, and correspondence related to various business ventures.
