Castellabate bids for Italian Sea Capital 2027 title

The municipality of Castellabate has officially announced its candidacy for the title of ‘Capitale Italiana del Mare 2027’ (Italian Sea Capital 2027) through its ‘Radici del Mare’ (Roots of the Sea) project.

The initiative is structured around four strategic pillars: marine environment and biodiversity with a focus on the Marine Protected Area; culture, memory, and maritime villages; underwater archaeology and exploration; and innovation, training, and the blue economy.

Mayor Marco Rizzo stated that the project aims to go beyond the competition itself by creating long-term public utility works and scientific interventions. The goal is to transform the coastal resource into a driver for sustainable development, protecting local traditions and the marine ecosystem for future generations.
