Castellammare del Golfo wildfire threatens homes amid Sicilian heatwave

A large wildfire broke out overnight in the Castellammare del Golfo area, specifically between the Sarmuci and Grotticelli locations. Driven by high temperatures and scirocco winds, the flames spread rapidly through vegetation and approached several residential buildings.

Four firefighting teams worked through the night to contain the blaze. While the fire threatened numerous homes, no houses were damaged and no injuries were reported in this specific incident. Aerial firefighting efforts via Canadair aircraft were limited by nighttime visibility conditions.

The region of Sicily remains under high alert due to extreme heat and fire risks. Palermo is under a red alert with perceived temperatures reaching 39 degrees Celsius, while Catania faces an orange alert. Enna is also noted for high fire risk levels.
