Castellammare del Golfo wildfire threatens homes and Zingaro Nature Reserve

A large wildfire has broken out in the Castellammare del Golfo area, spreading through Sarmuci, Piano Livreri, and Maiorca. The flames reached Borgo Scopello and moved toward the Mira del Re woods, nearing the southern border of the Zingaro Nature Reserve.

Emergency response teams, including firefighters, forest rangers, and civil protection units, are on-site. Difficult terrain and wind have complicated containment efforts. While the fire has slowed and some areas are currently considered under control, scattered hotspots remain and firefighting operations are ongoing.

As a precaution, some residents in the areas between Sarmuci and Scopello were evacuated. Mayor Giuseppe Fausto stated that the immediate threat to homes has subsided, but authorities remain on high alert. The local administration has prepared the Apollo Theater as a temporary shelter for anyone forced to leave their homes.
