Castellammare di Stabia hospital investigation after mother and unborn child die

Authorities in Italy have launched an investigation following the deaths of a 33-year-old woman, Greta Astarita, and her unborn daughter at the San Leonardo Hospital in Castellammare di Stabia.

According to reports, Astarita, a resident of Piano di Sorrento who was seven months pregnant, initially visited the hospital's gynecology department after experiencing groin pain. Following medical evaluations, she was discharged and returned to her home. Approximately two hours later, her condition deteriorated rapidly, and she lost consciousness.

Emergency services transported her back to the hospital, where medical staff confirmed the fetal death of the baby. Astarita was admitted to the intensive care unit but passed away later that afternoon. The State Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the medical care provided during her initial visit to determine if the tragic outcome could have been prevented.
