Castellammare di Stabia waste management faces heavy penalties

The waste management service in Castellammare di Stabia is facing significant legal and bureaucratic challenges. Currently managed by Velia Ambiente s. r. l. under a five-year contract worth approximately 60 million euros, the service is struggling to meet contractual obligations.

Official documents from the municipal Environment Sector reveal substantial penalties being levied against the provider. Specifically, the company failed to reach the required 56% threshold for separate waste collection during its second year, resulting in a fine of 350,641.93 euros. This penalty was scheduled to be paid in five monthly installments to maintain the company's financial stability and ensure worker salaries.

Additionally, the municipality has imposed daily penalties of 500 euros due to the lack of a required local operational headquarters. While Velia Ambiente proposed renovating a municipal warehouse, the local government has not approved the plan. These penalties have already reached 50,000 euros, with an additional 80,500 euros notified separately.
