Castellanza: Villa Colombo Bolla demolished for new MD supermarket

The historic Villa Colombo Bolla in Castellanza, Lombardy, has been demolished to make way for a new MD supermarket. The site, which spans over 6,000 square meters between the Autostrada dei Laghi and the local chemical hub, marks the end of an era for a property tied to an industrial family whose business originated in 1925.

Local authorities state the new commercial facility is intended to serve a high-density residential area that has previously lacked convenient access to daily groceries. The project is framed as a neighborhood service rather than a large-scale distribution center.

As part of the integrated development plan, the private operator will fund several public infrastructure improvements. These include the resurfacing of roads and sidewalks in Via XI Settembre, Viale Lombardia, and Via Per Marnate, as well as the construction of a new cycle path leading to Viale Italia. To improve pedestrian safety, five raised crossings will be installed. Additionally, a new roundabout will be constructed at a high-risk intersection involving Viale Lombardia, Via Piave, Via Per Marnate, and Via XI Settembre to reduce traffic accidents.
