Castellciutat residents protest N-260 road safety delays

Approximately one hundred residents of Castellciutat, a neighborhood within La Seu d’Urgell, staged a protest on the N-260 highway to demand the construction of a regulated pedestrian crossing. The demonstration, which took place on Sunday evening at kilometer point 229, caused intermittent traffic disruptions for vehicles traveling toward Andorra and southward.

Local residents claim they have been requesting a safe crossing and a traffic light system since at least 2010. While the La Seu d’Urgell City Council approved a project in September 2024 with a budget of approximately 69,892 euros plus VAT, construction has not yet begun. The delay is reportedly due to the refusal of one of the affected property owners to allow the works.

Protesters are calling on the City Council to take leadership of the situation and establish a concrete, public schedule for the bidding and execution of the infrastructure project.
