Castellciutat residents to block N-260 highway over pedestrian safety
Residents of Castellciutat, a neighborhood within the municipality of La Seu d'Urgell, have announced a road blockade on the N-260 highway scheduled for Sunday, September 6. The protest aims to demand the urgent construction of a regulated pedestrian crossing and traffic light system to connect the two sides of the town.
Local representatives state that the demand for improved safety has existed since 2010. Although a definitive project was approved in 2024 with a budget of approximately 69,892 euros, construction has not yet begun. The delay is reportedly due to unresolved issues involving the State, the local council, and affected landowners.
The protest will take place at kilometer 229 of the Pyrenean Axis. Organizers warn that the area sees an average of 16,000 vehicles daily, including 1,100 heavy vehicles, making the lack of a crossing a significant safety risk. Residents have threatened to continue weekly blockades if the local government does not establish a concrete timeline for the works.
