Castellón announces mental health initiatives amid accessibility concerns
The Castellón City Council has announced the programming for Mental Health Month this October, themed ‘Tejiendo redes en salud mental’ (Weaving networks in mental health). Presented by Councilor Clara Adsuara, the initiative aims to foster collaboration between professionals, associations, families, and institutions to support those facing mental health challenges.
Representatives from the Manantial and Salud y Comunidad foundations emphasized the importance of community participation and cultural tools for social reconnection and the exercise of citizenship rights. The municipal commitment also includes long-term planning, such as the SASEM service launched in early 2026.
Separately, the Compromís municipal group has raised concerns regarding accessibility at the Borrull building, which houses the city's Social Welfare services. Spokesperson Pau Sancho reported several deficiencies that may hinder autonomy for people with disabilities, including a lack of tactile paving, insufficient visual contrast in signage, and the absence of dedicated spaces for wheelchair users in waiting areas. The group argued that social service facilities should be fully accessible from their inception.
