Castellón celebrates 775 years since the Privilegio del Traslado

The city of Castellón is launching a multi-year celebration to mark the 775th anniversary of the ‘Privilegio del Traslado’. This historical document, signed by King Jaume I on September 8, 1251, authorized the population to move from the fortified Castell Vell to the current location in La Plana.

The commemorative program, which runs from September 2024 through September 2027, will feature a wide array of cultural, educational, and festive activities. A major highlight is the return of the original document to the city, which has not been hosted there for 25 years.

To mark the occasion, a cycle of five conferences will be held in September. These sessions will feature experts discussing archaeological searches at Castell Vell, the social evolution of the city, and the historical figure of Violant de Hungria. Local officials emphasized that the program aims to connect new generations with their historical roots through rigorous academic and cultural offerings.
