Castellón invests €17.8 million in water treatment upgrades
The Castellón City Council has regularized the management contract for its wastewater treatment plant, an infrastructure that has faced instability for several years. The new agreement, awarded to Facsa, involves an investment of €17.8 million over the next four years, with the possibility of extending until 2030.
The project aims to ensure technical and financial stability for the sanitation cycle, which treats 45 million liters of water daily. Key objectives include improving energy efficiency, reducing overflows, and enhancing odor control through technological transformation. This includes the integration of advanced sensors and real-time data analytics to create a digital twin of the infrastructure, allowing for simulations to anticipate heavy rainfall or peak loads.
In addition to the maintenance contract, the council is executing €4.3 million in structural improvements. Completed works include the renovation of the Ferrandis Salvador II pumping station, costing €540,000, alongside optimizations in the general relief system and the treatment plant's digestion process.
