Castellón opens Biblioteca 5.0 in rehabilitated Casa Andreu
The Castellón City Council has opened the Biblioteca 5.0 to the public following the comprehensive rehabilitation of the 18th-century Casa Andreu building. Located on Calle Mayor, the facility spans 1,378 square meters across four floors and an interior courtyard.
The renovation involved a total investment of 3,861,059 euros, with 2,617,263 euros provided by the European Union through Next Generation EU funds. The project focused on accessibility, energy efficiency, and modernizing the reading space. The interior features 1,674 square meters of local ceramic flooring and cladding, a large skylight, and a vertical garden.
The library houses 20,000 books and offers diverse spaces, including individual and group study areas, a children's library, youth spaces, and a press room specifically designed for senior citizens. The building's management system now controls occupancy, air quality, lighting, and irrigation.
