Castello Aragonese fire breaks out during San Rocco fireworks

A fire broke out at the Castello Aragonese in Ortona during the traditional fireworks display for the San Rocco festival. The flames affected two external areas of the castle but did not cause damage to the historical structures.

Emergency services, including the Fire Brigade, Civil Protection, and local police, responded to the scene. The fire was fully extinguished by approximately 2:00 AM. Following the intervention, crews conducted site cleanup and maintained a monitoring presence to prevent reignition.

Ortona Mayor Angelo Di Nardo stated that the priority was securing the area and noted that the municipality would conduct a technical evaluation. He indicated that the incident necessitates a broader reflection on future safety procedures, noting that similar occurrences have happened previously.
