Castelluccio Valmaggiore hosts historic medieval parade
On 12 August 2026, the town of Castelluccio Valmaggiore in the Monti Dauni will stage a new edition of its historic Corteo Storico. Organized by the municipal administration with the Fraternità di Misericordia and overseen by historian Giovanni De Girolamo, the parade recreates the 1444 investiture ceremony of Captain Antonio Caldora, then Duke of Bari, and the Barony of Val Maggiore. Participants will portray the Capitano del Popolo, the baron and baroness, nobles, clergy, peasants and other medieval figures, accompanied by flag‑bearers, drums and a marching band from Lucera.
The event aims to celebrate local heritage, attract visitors and promote tourism by offering an immersive experience of medieval customs, costumes and music while reinforcing community identity.
