Castelnau-de-Montmiral preserves medieval architecture in Tarn
Castelnau-de-Montmiral, a medieval bastide located in the Tarn department of France, maintains a remarkably preserved architectural heritage dating back to the 13th century. Founded in 1222 by the Count of Toulouse, the village is characterized by its checkerboard layout, timber-framed houses, and cobblestone streets.
A central feature of the village is the Place des Arcades, which features original pointed arches and hosts a weekly market on Tuesday mornings. The village also contains the Gothic Saint-Pierre-Saint-Paul church, which houses a 15th-century solid gold reliquary classified as a historical monument.
