Castelnovo names street after leukemia survivor Valeria Ferretti Incerti

Ten years after her death, the municipality of Castelnovo (Reggio Emilia) will hold a public remembrance on 2 August at the Palasport Giorgio Guidetti. The event will also announce the start of the process to name the road that leads to the Peep‑Pieve school complex after Valeria Ferretti Incerti. Valeria was diagnosed with leukemia at age 12, underwent a bone‑marrow transplant that left her with paralysis of the lower limbs, yet earned two degrees with top marks from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. She became a reference point for many people, advocating for the removal of architectural barriers and collaborating with the town on accessibility projects. Mayor Emanuele Ferrari said that naming the street recognises her determination, academic excellence and commitment to a more inclusive community. Family, friends, institutions and citizens are expected to attend the ceremony.
