Castelo do Bode reservoir safety concerns raised by GEOTA
The environmental organization GEOTA has raised alarms regarding safety concerns at the Castelo do Bode reservoir in Portugal. The group reports that recreational vessels and jet skis are operating too close to designated swimming areas, posing risks to bathers.
According to reports received by the organization, issues include improper anchoring, insufficient delimitation buoys, and the abandonment of waste. GEOTA representatives, including Américo Ferreira and Regina Falcão, have called for urgent intervention from competent authorities.
Proposed measures include increasing surveillance, improving informative signage in multiple languages to assist foreign visitors, and reinforcing the installation of protective buoys. The organization emphasizes that while legislation exists, there is a critical need for better public information and stricter enforcement to ensure the reservoir is used safely and responsibly.
