Castelsardo approves multi-story parking and urban redevelopment project
The municipality of Castelsardo has approved a design guideline document for a major urban redevelopment project centered on a new multi-story parking structure in via Nazionale. Funded by over 3.8 million euros from the Sardinia Region as part of the ‘Sette Città Regie’ itineraries, the initiative aims to improve mobility and accessibility for both residents and tourists.
The project involves acquiring an existing building to transform it into an intermodal hub. This facility is intended to reorganize traffic flows and better connect the medieval historic center with other parts of the city. Key features include a pedestrian exit located at the base of the Castello dei Doria and a panoramic lookout point on the structure's roof.
Mayor Maria Lucia Tirotto described the intervention as a strategic move to address high parking demand caused by the influx of visitors to local museums and cultural sites. The plan also considers the potential acquisition of green space near via Nazionale to improve the area's connectivity and landscape.
