Castilla-La Mancha announces subsidies to protect crops from rabbit damage

The government of Castilla-La Mancha has announced new subsidies to help farmers protect crops from damage caused by rabbit overpopulation. The regulations, published in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha, establish a framework for providing financial aid to agricultural landholders, including individuals, companies, and property communities.

The subsidies will cover 70% of the costs for prevention measures, with a maximum investment of 14,500 euros per application, resulting in a maximum grant of 10,150 euros. To facilitate immediate action, the government will provide an automatic 50% advance of the requested amount without requiring guarantees. Eligible prevention activities include installing specialized mesh fencing, using individual plant protectors, and removing rabbit warrens.

According to Vice-Counselor of Environment José Almodóvar, the upcoming call for aid will feature a total budget of two million euros. These measures are part of a broader 18-point strategic plan established by the Regional Rabbit Table, which carries an estimated total investment of nearly four million euros. Applicants have a one-month window to submit their requests following the official announcement.
