Castilla-La Mancha demands immediate application of Tajo-Segura water transfer rules

The regional government of Castilla-La Mancha is demanding the immediate application of new exploitation rules for the Tajo-Segura water transfer. Officials emphasize that securing water in sufficient quantity and quality is vital for the region's socioeconomic development, territorial cohesion, biodiversity, and historical traditions.

During the 30th edition of the Fiesta Ganchera del Alto Tajo, Montserrat Muro, the Director General of Water, highlighted the urgent need to review the hydrological planning for the 2028-2033 cycle. The regional executive has submitted various claims to the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge regarding the seven river basins passing through the region, including a specific request for the Sorbe-Bornova connection.

Additionally, regional leaders have called for prioritizing the use of water from the Tajo and Sorbe rivers for local needs over the demands for water diversions from the Levante region and the Community of Madrid.
