Castilla-La Mancha denies priority status for Talavera biomethane projects

The regional government of Castilla-La Mancha has officially stated that none of the pending biomethane plant projects in Talavera de la Reina are classified as ‘Priority Projects’. David Gómez Arroyo, the regional delegate in Talavera, confirmed that the Ministry of Sustainable Development has already responded to the City Council regarding this matter.

Gómez Arroyo noted that under the Law of Priority Projects, the affected City Council is a primary participant in the declaration process, and municipal representatives are part of the Provincial Urbanism Commission that drives such designations. He further clarified that in matters of environmental impact statements and integrated environmental authorizations, the regional government acts as a judge rather than a party to the process.

The delegate criticized local leadership, specifically mentioning José Julián Gregorio, asserting that the current administration is attempting to shift responsibility to the regional government for projects that were previously validated by the local City Council. He stated that the documentation provided by the proponents had previously resulted in positive reports, even when initial assessments were negative.
