Castilla-La Mancha government highlights Quevedo legacy on 400th anniversary of El Buscón

The regional government of Castilla‑La Mancha reaffirmed its commitment to preserving and promoting the literary heritage of the area during the IV centenary of Francisco de Quevedo’s novel El Buscón. Vice‑councilor for Culture and Sports Carmen Teresa Olmedo announced that the administration will financially back the commemoration, stressing Quevedo’s close ties to the town of Torre de Juan Abad and the importance of using such anniversaries to bring the author and his work closer to citizens.

Olmedo said, “proteger nuestro patrimonio no significa únicamente conservarlo, sino también investigarlo, divulgarlo y conseguir que las nuevas generaciones lo conozcan y lo hagan suyo.” She added that the government will continue “trabajar para conservar y difundir un patrimonio cultural y literario que forma parte de nuestra identidad.” The Library of Castilla‑La Mancha, in collaboration with the municipality, will host an exhibition of historical documents, literary works and patrimonial materials related to Quevedo. The three‑day programme (31 July‑2 August) in Torre de Juan Abad brings together researchers, specialists and artists for conferences, exhibitions, theatre, poetry, music, cinema and other heritage‑focused activities.
