Castilla-La Mancha implements new harvesting rules and agricultural subsidies
The regional government of Castilla-La Mancha, in collaboration with agricultural organizations ASAJA and UPA, has established new regulations to balance agricultural harvesting with forest fire prevention. Under the new measures, the threshold for applying harvesting restrictions during high and extreme risk periods has been increased from five hectares to 20 hectares. For forest areas exceeding 20 hectares, a 10-meter perimeter strip of uncultivated land or sunflowers may be established to allow harvesters to operate without restrictions at any time.
In a separate development, the regional Ministry of Agriculture has distributed over 78.7 million euros in advances from the 2026 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to farmers and ranchers in the province of Cuenca. These funds aim to provide immediate liquidity, including 45.4 million euros for basic income sustainability and 22.3 million euros for sustainable practices and eco-schemes such as crop rotation and biodiversity preservation. Across the entire Castilla-La Mancha region, total transfers since the start of the process exceed 381.4 million euros.
