Castilla-La Mancha political parties clash over water rights

Political tensions are rising in Castilla-La Mancha regarding the management and protection of regional water resources. The People's Party (PP) has announced motions in various town halls and the Provincial Council of Albacete to defend the irrigators of SAT Albatana. Representatives denounced the failure to develop 1,470 hectares of planned irrigation, a project stalled for over 20 years despite investments from European funds and local farmers. They criticized the regional government for failing to prevent potential economic ruin for over 400 users in the Albatana, Hellín, and Tobarra areas.

Simultaneously, the Socialist Party (PSOE) has introduced a parliamentary initiative aimed at safeguarding the region's hydraulic interests. The proposal seeks to ensure that water from the Tajo, Sorbe, Júcar, Segura, and Guadiana rivers is utilized within the region rather than being lost to other communities. PSOE representatives have called on PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo to take a definitive stance in defense of regional water flows and to oppose the Tajo-Segura transfer, accusing the PP of historical absence in protecting these resources.
