Castilla-La Mancha to deploy water tankers in Toledo

The regional government of Castilla-La Mancha will activate an emergency service of water tanker trucks on Monday morning to supply drinking water to four municipalities within the Mancomunidad del Pusa in Toledo. The affected towns are Retamoso de la Jara, Espinoso del Rey, San Martín de Pusa, and Santa Ana de Pusa.

These municipalities are facing a critical situation as their water reserves are expected to be exhausted within three to four days due to a significant drop in the level of their supplying reservoir. Unlike other towns in the region, these four locations lack alternative water sources or wells and depend entirely on surface water collection that has run dry.

The decision follows a formal request from Esteban Benito, the president of the Mancomunidad and mayor of San Bartolomé de las Abiertas. Montserrat Muro, the Director General of Water for Castilla-La Mancha, stated that the government could not ignore the request given the imminent shortage. The emergency response will be coordinated through the Ministry of Sustainable Development and the public entity Infraestructuras del Agua de Castilla-La Mancha.
