Castilla-La Mancha to launch digital repository for documentary heritage

The Government of Castilla-La Mancha has announced the development of a new digital repository designed to protect and safeguard the region's documentary and bibliographic heritage. The project aims to ensure that digital versions of historical documents, such as old newspapers, maps, manuscripts, and sound recordings, remain accessible despite evolving technologies and changing software platforms.

The announcement was made during the II Technical Conference on Legal Deposit of Online Publications, held at the Library of Castilla-La Mancha in Toledo. The initiative addresses the modern challenge of digital preservation, recognizing that simply digitizing a document does not guarantee its long-term survival as formats and systems continue to change.
