Castilla y León allocates 33.2 million euros for municipal cohesion
The Territorial Cohesion Fund in Castilla y León will mobilize over 33.2 million euros to support municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants. The initiative aims to bolster basic infrastructure, such as water supply networks, public lighting, and street paving, to encourage local economic activity and employment.
In the province of León, 2.1 million euros will be distributed among 153 small municipalities with populations under 1,000 residents. This specific funding is co-financed by the Junta de Castilla y León (50%), the Diputación de León (25%), and the local town halls (25%).
The fund utilizes a model of inter-territorial solidarity to address demographic challenges, prioritizing areas with higher unemployment and depopulation rates. Consequently, provinces like Soria and Zamora will see significant increases in funding compared to standard distributions. For municipalities with populations between 1,000 and 20,000, the regional administration covers 75% of the investment, while local councils contribute the remaining 25%.
