Castilla y León allocates 3.25 million euros to support rural bars

The Junta de Castilla y León has approved a significant investment of 3,258,000 euros to support the maintenance of bars and social centers in small municipalities and local entities. This funding will benefit 1,086 establishments across the region, representing a 16.4% increase in both the number of supported businesses and the total budget compared to 2025.

Each beneficiary will receive 3,000 euros to cover current operating expenses, such as water, electricity, gas, and internet services. The initiative aims to preserve these venues as essential social hubs to combat isolation and foster community cohesion in rural areas. The expansion of the program is partly due to the removal of previous population limits, allowing more small villages to qualify for aid.

In León, the province received the largest portion of the funds, with 232 grants totaling 696,000 euros. Additionally, starting in 2027, the Junta plans to double the aid to 6,000 euros for establishments that incorporate a small shop selling basic food, hygiene, and cleaning products, providing an extra 3,000 euros to help cover social security costs for workers.
