Castilla y León allocates 45 million euros to sustain Buscyl transport
The regional government of Castilla y León has approved 45 million euros in subsidies to maintain the Buscyl public road transport system. The funds will be distributed among 109 concessionaires to ensure the economic sustainability and continuity of services.
The measure aims to cover operating deficits and the reduction in revenue caused by the implementation of free public transport for residents registered in Castilla y León. This free service has led to an increase in passenger numbers, subsequently raising costs for concessionaires regarding personnel and vehicles.
Of the total amount, 32.1 million euros will be paid in advance to cover estimated deficits and revenue losses between August 1, 2026, and January 31, 2027. The remaining 12.8 million euros will be used to regularize advanced payments for the period between February 1 and July 31, 2026. According to Carlos Fernández Carriedo, the Minister of Economy and Finance, these funds are intended to guarantee liquidity for the service providers.
