Castilla y León concludes 6.7 million euro poplar wood auction
The Junta de Castilla y León has concluded a major poplar wood auction, totaling over 6.7 million euros. The proceeds will be distributed among 44 municipalities across seven provinces in the region.
Considered the largest auction of its kind in Spain this year, the process involved the sale of 61,634 cubic meters of wood sourced from approximately 80,000 trees. These trees are part of 10,000 hectares managed by the public company Somacyl. The final sale price reflected a 19 percent increase over the initial starting price of 5.7 million euros, reaching an average of more than 108 euros per cubic meter.
Provinces such as León and Zamora saw significant participation. León accounted for 38 percent of the wood with adjudications valued at 2.6 million euros, while Zamora contributed approximately 30 percent, receiving 2 million euros. The high-quality wood is primarily destined for the plywood industry.
