Spanish agricultural sectors protest rising costs and low yields

Agricultural sectors across various Spanish regions are facing significant economic challenges, leading to organized protests and demands for government intervention.

In Castilla y León, professional agricultural organizations (OPA), including Asaja, UCCL, and UPA-COAG, have called for a demonstration in Valladolid. They are demanding at least 150 million euros in direct aid to mitigate losses in the cereal sector, which are estimated at approximately 300 million euros due to high production costs for fertilizers and fuel combined with low crop yields.

In the Rueda Denomination of Origin, viticulturists are mobilizing to protest grape purchase prices that they claim do not cover production costs, threatening the viability of local vineyards. Meanwhile, in the Basque Country, the ATACA association has organized a tractor march in Vitoria-Gasteiz to demand that the region be officially declared a drought zone.

Additionally, in the Bierzo region, local authorities are seeking to resolve issues regarding the funding and management of child protection services, specifically contesting the transfer of cases to León due to service overloads.
