Castilla y León farmers to protest over lack of cereal sector support

Agricultural organizations in Castilla y León have announced a protest scheduled for August 27 in front of the regional government headquarters in Valladolid. The mobilization follows the regional government's decision not to approve immediate economic support measures for the cereal sector during a recent Council of Government meeting.

Farmers are facing a severe crisis characterized by a nearly 40% drop in production, low market prices, and high production costs for fertilizers, fuel, and seeds. Producers report that many farms are currently operating at a loss, threatening the long-term viability of the sector in Spain's largest cereal-producing region.

While the central government has offered some aid, local organizations argue these measures are insufficient. In response to the crisis, ASAJA Soria has announced it will close its offices on the day of the protest to join the collective action demanding decisive regional support.
