Tlaxcala and Spanish municipalities modernize water treatment systems

Various regional water authorities are implementing technological upgrades to modernize water supply and wastewater treatment systems.

In Tlaxcala, Mexico, the Comisión Estatal de Agua y Saneamiento (CEAS) is launching four pilot projects involving international cooperation with agencies from Japan and Spain, as well as the Inter-American Development Bank. These projects include a 4.5 million peso water purification plant in Ciudad Judicial and an intelligent real-time monitoring system at the CIX I treatment plant in Tetla, utilizing 4G and satellite technology to improve operational control.

In Spain, several municipalities are investing in infrastructure efficiency. Valladolid is undertaking a 6.3 million euro modernization of its wastewater treatment plant (EDAR) through Aquavall. The project focuses on repairing digestors, installing a photovoltaic plant, and improving biogas production to increase energy self-sufficiency. Similarly, Benidorm is implementing the ‘Bioboost’ pilot project, investing approximately 146,000 euros to optimize sludge processing and enhance biogas quality through the use of iron nanoparticles.
