Castilla y León launches new Integral Forestry Plan

The regional government of Castilla y León has announced the development of a new Integral Forestry Plan. The initiative aims to increase the profitability of timber operations and integrate wildfire prevention through direct territorial intervention.

Managed by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, the plan seeks to consolidate industrial transformation and address the rising international demand for wood in sustainable construction, packaging, and paper. Castilla y León holds 5.1 million hectares of forest, with 1.8 million hectares managed as public utility forests. The administration intends to update management plans for all public lands within the current legislature.

For the private sector, which accounts for 64% of the region's forest area, the plan focuses on simplifying administrative processes, digitizing files, and encouraging associations to address property fragmentation. The forestry sector in the region supports over 1,000 companies and generates more than 1.5 billion euros in added value.
