Castilla y León legislature rejects proposal for separate preschool classrooms

The Education Commission of the Cortes of Castilla y León has rejected a non-legislative proposal from Unión del Pueblo Leonés (UPL) regarding the organization of preschool classrooms at CEIP Piñera in Vega de Espinareda. The initiative sought to maintain separate classrooms for 1st and 2nd year preschool students to ensure pedagogical attention tailored to different developmental stages.

The proposal was blocked by the PP and Vox parties, which form the governing coalition of the Junta de Castilla y León. UPL representative Rosa Quintanilla criticized the decision, noting that the 12 students involved include one with special educational needs. She argued that grouping 3 and 4-year-olds together due to ratio regulations undermines educational quality in rural areas.
