Castilla y León new regional cabinet met with farmer aid calls and Leonist opposition

The Union of Small Farmers and Livestock Producers (UPA) in Castilla y León has urged the newly appointed regional agriculture minister, Joaquín Antonio Pino, to adopt an urgent, extraordinary support plan for the cereal sector. UPA cites poor harvest forecasts and historically low grain prices as threats to farm viability and asks for direct financial aid.

At the same time, the Union of the Leonese People (UPL) criticised the composition of the new PP‑VOX coalition government led by Alfonso Fernández Mañueco. UPL claims the cabinet reduces León’s representation in the council, denounces key appointments such as Juan Carlos Suárez‑Quiñones as minister of Industry, Universities, Trade and Employment, and Luis Miguel González Gago as vice‑president, and accuses the administration of continuing past shortcomings, especially in fire management and gender equality policies.
