Castilla y León proposes new solar energy tax

The regional government of Castilla y León has proposed a new environmental tax targeting large-scale solar photovoltaic plants. Included in the regional budget project supported by PPyVox, the measure would impose a levy of between 600 and 2,000 euros per hectare on large solar farms located on land that sell energy to the grid.

Sara Aagesen, Spain’s Minister for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, criticized the proposal, stating that such a tax “darkens the future for everyone” and arguing that the national priority remains affordable, indigenous renewable energy. The Spanish Photovoltaic Union (UNEF) has also condemned the measure, describing it as an “absolutely revenue-driven and unjustified” tax that penalizes an industry providing local socioeconomic development and consumer competitiveness.
