Castilla y León records record-high immigration levels
Immigration to the Spanish region of Castilla y León has reached record levels, according to the latest data from the Permanent Observatory of Immigration. By the end of the first half of 2026, the region recorded 252,963 regular foreign residents, the highest figure in the series.
In the past year alone, the number of foreign residents increased by 21,119. This single-year influx represents one-quarter of the total growth of the foreign population seen over the entire previous decade. The data shows a sharp upward trend that began after 2016, when the number of immigrants briefly declined.
While the number of EU citizens with registration certificates decreased slightly by 0.3% compared to 2025, the number of foreign nationals with official authorizations rose to 109,646.
