Castilla y León reduces natural swimming sites to 32 this summer

The regional health authority has cut the official list of natural swimming zones in Castilla y León from 33 to 32 for the 2025 summer season, omitting the Burbia River stretch at Toral de los Vados because it did not meet required microbiological and physico‑chemical water‑quality standards. The remaining sites are overseen with weekly microbiological inspections until 15 September, with a total of 355 checks and 41 recorded incidents, only one of which resulted in a "not suitable" designation. León and Zamora provinces each contain nine authorized zones, together accounting for more than half of the total, while Salamanca has none. Permanent bathing bans continue on the Pisuerga River in Valladolid and the Duero River in Zamora after successive years of insufficient ratings. Highly rated locations include Lake Sanabria, Lake Carucedo, the Aguilar de Campoo reservoir and points on the Cuerda del Pozo reservoir.
