Castilla y León reports lowest rate of unused language skills in Spanish workforce

A study by Randstad reveals that 27.7% of workers in Castilla y León had to certify a second language to be hired but do not use it in their current roles. Despite this mismatch, the region recorded the lowest rate of unused language skills among the Spanish communities analyzed.

The report, based on a survey of nearly 5,700 workers across Spain, highlights a gap between recruitment requirements and actual job duties. In Castilla y León, 55.6% of the workforce knows at least one language beyond their mother tongue, and 19.4% identify as multilingual.

While 88.3% of workers in the region believe language proficiency improves job prospects, the practical application varies by region. Other areas showed higher rates of language mismatch, including Catalonia at 45%, Aragón at 35.8%, Castilla-La Mancha at 32.5%, and Galicia at 32.4%.
