Castilla y León sees 25% increase in synthetic drug seizures
Drug trafficking is on the rise in Castilla y León, with a particular surge in synthetic or designer drugs produced in clandestine laboratories. Seizures of these substances increased by approximately 25% compared to the previous year.
According to the latest Annual Drug Statistics, 13,774 reports were filed in the region for drug possession in 2025, representing a 4.44% year-on-year increase. Regarding synthetic drugs specifically, authorities seized over 21 kilograms, up from 17.5 kilograms the prior year. Additionally, nearly 4,000 units of substances such as ecstasy, ketamine, and LSD stamps were apprehended, marking a 28.4% increase over 2024.
Burgos remains a primary concern for law enforcement due to its proximity to the Basque Country, Cantabria, and La Rioja. The National Police and the Civil Guard are increasing surveillance in major population centers and along highways to combat the trend.
