Castilla‑La Mancha signs LGBTI workplace equality accords with unions and business federation

The Equality Council of Castilla‑La Mancha sealed three agreements with the major Spanish trade unions CCOO and UGT and the regional employers federation Cecam. The accords, signed in Toledo by regional Equality Minister Sara Simón, union leaders Javier Ortega and Lola Alcónez, and business president Ángel Nicolás, aim to promote LGBTI equality in the labour market.

Key measures include government‑led sensitisation campaigns, programmes to improve the employability of LGBTI people, and a protocol to address LGBTI‑related discrimination in companies. The agreements forego any new public funding; instead they rely on the regional Service of Integral LGBTI Attention (SAI LGBTI) to support training, mediation and the establishment of discrimination‑free workplaces.

Statistics cited by the officials note that 7‑9 % of LGBTI persons report discrimination, more than three‑quarters feel they have fewer job opportunities, and one in three experience verbal abuse at work. The partners pledged ongoing collaboration in recruitment processes and the creation of safe reporting channels.
