Castoria Police to host animal protection and welfare seminar

The Castoria Police Directorate is organizing an educational seminar titled ‘Animal Protection and Welfare: Prevention, Responsibility, and Cooperation’ on October 5, 2026. The event will take place at the ‘Enydreio’ multi-purpose hall in Castoria.

The seminar features several speakers, including Konstantinos Kotsonis, Police Deputy Director, who will discuss the role of modern policing in protecting animals. Anastasios Sotiriou, a municipal veterinarian, will present welfare practices, and Theopoula Antonaki, General Secretary of the ‘Philozoi en Drasei Castoria’ association, will address volunteering and the challenges of managing stray animals.

This initiative is part of the Greek Police’s 2026 annual action plan. It serves as the first in a series of regional events scheduled for October across the police directorates of Grevena, Castoria, Kozani, and Florina. The primary objectives are to prevent animal abuse, deter crimes against animals, and inform the public about current legislation and responsible pet ownership.
