Castreccioni Dam serves as vital water reservoir for Marche region
The Castreccioni Dam in Cingoli has been identified as a vital water reservoir for the Marche region, holding 28 million cubic meters of water with optimal salinity levels. The Consorzio di bonifica delle Marche is currently evaluating the irrigation season following an exceptionally hot summer, with CNR estimates suggesting temperatures significantly above historical averages.
While the total available water volume across five managed reservoirs exceeds 37 million cubic meters, specific areas face water stress. The Mercatale zone has been impacted by low spring rainfall affecting the Foglia river, and the Tenna valley has experienced high evaporation rates in open channels due to heatwaves. To support local farmers, the Consortium has implemented a water distribution rotation system and approved the installment payment of irrigation tariffs.
