Castro authorities report severe landslides and road closures

The Municipal Civil Defense in Castro has released an updated report regarding the impact of severe weather events in the region. The report includes georeferenced mapping of road closures and landslides affecting at least six rural communities.

Critical infrastructure damage has been identified in several areas. In Lagoa Vermelha, the road is completely closed with four landslide points. Arrieiros reports six landslide points blocking access, while Invernada has five severely compromised sections. Lageado is inaccessible following three landslides, and Água Morna has two blocked routes.

Local authorities are prioritizing life safety and emergency road clearing. The municipality is seeking support from the 5th Mechanized Cavalry Squadron to assist in rebuilding bridges. Currently, 11 people from three families have been displaced by the heavy rains and are receiving shelter, food, and assistance at the Casa Pop facility.
